In the second mud pit of Gusty Gateway you’ll find a Bot carrying several crates while being surrounded by crabs. This is a reference to 2020’s Death Stranding by Kojima Productions on PS4, which stars Norman Reedus as courier Sam Bridges in a post-apocalyptic America. In the first mud pit in Gusty Gateway, look in the right-hand corner for a skeleton swinging a sword around with a distinctive shield. The shield reveals that this is a reference to 1998’s MediEvil on PS1 by SCE Cambridge, about the knight Sir Daniel Fortesque being brought back to life so he can live up to his own falsified legacy. I can’t imagine playing it with a standard controller — though I’m sure my family hopes I run out of new discoveries soon. I’ve developed an incredibly annoying habit while playing Astro’s Playroom.
The “Project Neo” Trophy is a reference to the codename of the PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro was a more powerful model of the original PlayStation 4 launched in 2016. It has an additional 2.3 teraflops of power, which allows it to render games at close to 4K resolutions, or in HD with better performance. In the Labo Room will be three Bots cheering on another Bot using a dance mat. This references Dance Dance Revolution, a popular arcade game developed by Konami that was ported to the PS1 in 1999 exclusively in Japan.
He previously shared his thoughts on video games in, e.g. various thematic groups. He plays on everything and in everything, which can sometimes be reflected in his reviews. His favorite console is the Nintendo 3DS, he plays a new FIFA every year and tries to broaden his gaming horizons.

EE can help you get everything you need from consoles, to games, to connectivity. On the capsule itself, we included a small hint showing the image of a clock. Looking carefully around the level nearby, you will find a similar clock symbol carved into one of the trees up above. [edit] Memory Meadow guide is a bit wrong, no point getting the canister with a net in it at the start as you need your hands free to pull out the two cables to walk across first.
Collecting coins contributes to trophy progress‚ so thorough exploration is key. Focus on areas with unique terrain to maximize your coin haul efficiently. Astro Playroom features unique challenges that test your skills and speed. Speedrun-related trophies‚ like Blinding Speed‚ require completing levels as fast as possible‚ often under strict time limits. Special challenges involve precise platforming or completing sections without taking damage.

The PlayStation Memory Card acted as an interim between on-board cartridge memory and storing saves on a console’s internal storage (which the PlayStation lacked, outside of the RAM). Holding a whopping 1 MB of storage divided into 15 blocks, these allowed saves to be copied, backed up and shared among friends independent of the games and consoles. Toro the cat filled the role to a degree in Japan but he never fronted any major games and has since faded from the limelight. But now there is vz88 and while Astro isn’t much of a character his games are becoming some of the best in Sony’s line-up.
At the very end of the level, turn around to find a Bot wearing a blue cap trying to crack a safe, who retreats when you get close. This is a reference the Sly Cooper franchise that first appeared in 2002 on PS2, developed by Sucker Punch. This scene refers to his safe cracking skills, and this setup in particular serves as the cover for the European version of the game, where it was known simply as Sly Raccoon. On the right-hand side of the pool at the very end of Bot Beach is a bloated Bot with a crown on its head and a cake on its belly.
While hunting for realistic depictions of PlayStation systems or spotting a robot wearing the costume of a beloved PlayStation mascot may stick out, it all feels of apiece with Astro’s charming overall design. Running at a smooth 4K 60fps, Astro’s world may not be massive and require huge draw distances or populate the screen with hundreds of enemies, but it’s certainly pretty. Natural environments come together with PS5 internal parts and other pieces of hardware in a beautiful blend of the environmental with the technological.
Astro’s Playroom goes a step further by setting itself entirely inside your PlayStation 5, with the four worlds based on the SSD, GPU, and other major components. While platforming games do not appeal to everyone, players can spend a few good hours going through obstacle courses and hunting a few easter eggs tucked away by the developers. If you just bought a PlayStation 5 or had one at launch, it would be a shame to miss experiencing a game that is completely free in 2025.
The DualShock 3 was the PS3’s main controller, and the first PlayStation controller to be wireless (well, sort of; see below). It swaped the Analog button for the Home button, and had convex triggers for L2 and R2. Its primary new feature was SIXAXIS motion sensing that let you move and rotate the controller to control the game, a feature still in use today. The PSP Go was the smallest version of the PSP, removing the disc drive and having a screen that slid up to reveal the buttons underneath. Because the UMD drive was removed, the PSP Go could only play digital games, either downloaded from its PSN Store or transferred via a PlayStation 3. It also coudln’t use the Camera, Microphone or GPS peripherals without an adapter.
So many little details throughout Astro’s Playroom make the DualSense exciting. On the first level, you’re going along a beach and can feel the steps you make in the sand. Each bit of grain is felt through your hand, which makes it intense in the best way. Take when you’re exiting the beach and you’re walking against the fans that are blowing sand across you. The microphone makes the wind more intense while the vibrations of the sand are felt as the controller feels like a sandstorm. Whether it’s the main menu with its signature Astro theme to celebrate the character, or CPU Plaza’s grandiose techno track and even Cooling Springs having a nice and cozy tune in its ice level.
