The only villains we get are Kraven, Venom, Sandman, The Lizard, and Mysterio (kind of). They set up The Chameleon and Carnage but they don’t actually do anything. And that’s not even mentioning side characters like Silver Sable who easily could’ve returned in some capacity. With the small exception of a Mister Negative boss fight, but he doesn’t do anything until that point.

Far too much of what you’re doing feels like padding from the early days of open world games—there’s more inspiration here from Crackdown than there is from GTA V. Dialogue has this odd faux-wholesome tone, like you’re trapped in a corporate training video—all careful politeness and empty one-liners.
The game expands on their existing traversal and combat abilities, including new web-based gadgets and suits that can be unlocked through progressing in the story. It also introduces the former Spider-Man’s symbiote suit, granting Parker unique abilities from his previous playable appearance. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dropped in late 2023 to positive reviews, though it launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, meaning PC players who had invested time in the original game were left out. This was fixed at the end of January 2025, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being brought to PC. In the weeks since, the PC version of the game has now seen multiple updates, all of which have targeted performance issues and bugs. Much like Marvel’s Spider-Man, the sequel also has a slow, but steady build-up, as the game begins with an action segment where players have to save Manhattan from the Sandman.
Tackle A Richer Story With More Freedom
It’s been almost five years since the original hit the shelves, and players are desperate for any slither of information. Other big fixes include fixing a crash that happened while quitting Spider-Man 2 too quickly after starting it and another that involved a crash that would happen on quadcore processors after turning ray tracing on. It’s already a great-looking game, though now that it is on PC, players will likely want to push Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to its limits. This new update works to make this possible, with another fix addressing an annoying issue with brightness, contrast, and other visual effects that caused them to reset. A few missions later, Peter, with his symbiote suit, helps Miles Morales track down the Lizard, but the younger Spider-Man realizes that his friend is not quite himself. Peter goes to take down the lizard himself, and succeeds, but Miles is captured by Hunters, leading Peter to go to save him and vow to kill Kraven the Hunter.
At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of millions of New Yorkers rest upon his shoulders. It’s currently unclear if Spider-Man 2 will be verified on Steam Deck at launch. However, most of Sony’s other big, single player outings are verified for Steam Deck, most notably the other two Spider-Man games from Insomniac — the original and Miles Morales.
Kraven the Hunter is the main villain for most of Spider-Man 2 and he isn’t anywhere near interesting or dynamic enough to be in that role. n188 of his section of the game is the symbiote. It takes a very long time for Venom to show up, some would say too long, but he steals the show the second he does.
Every fragment pieces Marko’s humanity back together, with sound clips illustrating the pain he’s endured over the years. God of War Ragnarok made a near-perfect transition to PC, as did Ghost of Tsushima. Unfortunately, there have also been some PlayStation PC ports that have missed the mark, like The Last of Us Part 1. The Last of Us Part 1 had all kinds of technical problems when it first launched for PC, and now Spider-Man 2 has followed in its footsteps.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC is unfortunately the inferior version of what is otherwise an amazing game. Still, PC gamers will want to be cautious about picking up the game right now because of the crashing and various other technical issues, but when they do dive in, they’ll want to make sure that they have a controller handy.
Previously, players had access to 28 suits at launch and 47 thereafter, pending updates and DLC. Now, you’ll have access to 78 suits with unique costumes for both Peter and Miles. A bird’s-eye assessment reveals Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) to have a more story-focused gameplay narrative compared to the sequel. It incorporates unexpected twists and turns that take you by surprise and really invest your attention and emotion in the narrative. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023) is more action-focused, so much so that the cutscenes can feel like a drag.
Everything he does is intimidating, and you feel the power behind every movement. Thanks in no small part to the fact that you get to play as him for a stretch. Gone is the gadget wheel that you have to pause the action to access. Instead, there are 4 combat abilities for each character, and 4 shared gadgets. Peter got jealous of Miles’ venom powers – sharing the name of the villain despite having no connection and never being mentioned – so he stole Doc Ock’s arms and made them his own.
