First hypnotised by the light of the monitor as he muddled through Simon the Sorcerer on his uncle’s machine, he’s been a devotee ever since, devouring any RPG or strategy game to stumble into his path. After apprehending the Kingpin, a new super-powered crime syndicate known as the Inner Demons become the largest criminal organization in the city, led by the mysterious Mister Negative. You can’t change the time of day in the main story because there are certain story moments tied to the time of day. It’s a sad moment as Peter kneels beside his best friend and confesses his love as Harry passes out. Either way, it’s a beautiful moment between the two characters and fans will probably shed a few tears. This is the last action-oriented mission of the game which involves Peter and Miles teaming up to take down Venom.
They’re so blandly nice it tips over into being unsettling—you keep getting that feeling like everyone’s waiting for you to leave so they can badmouth you behind your back. These later stages are where the majority of Spider-Man 2’s thrills lay, however, as it really hits its stride late on, and emphatically wraps up a tale with miles of emotional depth that never once threatens to peter out. Despite its imperfections and overall lack of side content as well as a rushed third act the gameplay is near perfect in every way possible. Norman Osborn, while a conniving and shady businessman in both iterations, holds the office of Mayor of New York City, a position he never held in the comics. And though certainly antagonistic, Osborn is a more explicit Super Villain in the comics, becoming the Green Goblin in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #14. This may pay off in interesting ways as he does whatever he can to save his ailing son Harry in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. How much this dual protagonist feature actually adds to the game is a little questionable I think, but the execution is undeniably slick. You swing freely around New York, taking on whatever missions and activities you choose. The big twist in Spider-Man 2 is that… well, there’s two Spider-Men. I can’t say that I noticed one dropped frame in my dozens of hours of playing.
The mid-credits scene reveals that Harry is to be released from his stasis pod, even though his health is still unstable. Peter puts Miles to the test, going off to Symkaria for a couple of weeks to help MJ with her work as a reporter there and leaving Miles in charge of protecting the city, leaving him as the sole Spider-Man in NYC for the first time. With the help of his new suit, Spider-Man defeats Doc Ock and takes the cure, but there is only enough left to save either Aunt May from dying or to replicate the formula to save everyone else. Peter chooses to save everyone else, which leads to a tearful goodbye from his loved one. Otto Octavius later turns into Doc Ock and frees Mr. Negative, Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion to form the Sinister Six. Doc Ock takes the Devil’s breath and releases it in Times Square, also infecting Aunt May.
